2018 Hyundai Santro India Launch, Price, Specs and Features
So, here’s a good news for all the Santro lovers! Hyundai India has confirmed that it will bring back the beloved Santro hatchback in the country. With an evolutionary design and a new set of engines, the new Hyundai Santro 2018 (internally known as Hyundai AH2) is likely to hit showrooms during this year’s festive season (i.e. around Diwali). Besides this, the carmaker will invest around Rs 6,300 crore in India in the next three years, which will be used for development of new products, powertrains and establishing a new office building.
Hyundai will also use this investment for its upcoming nine products by 2020 including electric vehicles and new 2018 Santro. Rumour also has it that the new-generation Hyundai Santro might make its debut at the 2018 Auto Expo. Hyundai broke millions of Indian hearts when it discontinued its popular hatchback – Santro – from the market. Launched in 1998, the Hyundai Santro has been a runaway success for the South Korean carmaker in India. With an aim to free up capacity for manufacturing other cars, the company had stopped the hatchback’s production in December 2014.

New Hyundai Santro 2018 Launch Date
Talking to ET Auto, Y K Koo, HMIL Managing Director and CEO, said that the new Hyundai Santro will make a comeback to India near Diwali this year. There is a possibility of the hatchback make its comeback in October (2018), as the vehicle was first launched in India in the same month in 1998. The reason behind bringing back the Santro is said to be the consistent interest and queries of customers, dealers and market for the Santro. The company is in a process to take a final call on the hatchback badge.
Though the exact launch date is yet to be revealed, it might make its first appearance at the 2018 Delhi Auto Expo. Hyundai is hoping that the next Santro will help it counter the popular Renault Kwid, which has managed to outsell most of its rivals. Based on the findings of its marketing and sales department, the new model will be designed in India by Hyundai’s R&D centre in Hyderabad. Reports suggest that the new Hyundai Santro’s development and launch will cost Rs 1,000 crore.
New Hyundai Santro 2018 Price in India
|Base Model||Rs 4 lakh|
|Top Model||Rs 6 lakh|
With an aim to attract young buyers, Hyundai might equip its 2018 Santro with several new features and revive its styling thoroughly. Though, the hatchback will retain the original ‘Tall Boy’ design. The hatchback’s new-gen model will use an all-new platform, which is already used in the existing Kia cars. This new platform will be produced locally in the country that will further help the carmaker price the vehicle aggressively. Furthermore, the South Korean carmaker is reportedly working on an AMT (automated manual transmission) gearbox for its lower-end products.
Components for this unit will be sourced from Ricardo or Magneti Marelli. In terms of pricing and positioning, the new Santro will fit between the Eon and the Grand i10. Aggressive pricing could be one of the key factors that might help the new Hyundai hatchback to withstand the new-age competitors. We believe that 2018 Hyundai Santro price in India will be around Rs 4 lakh for the entry-level variant, and go all the way up to Rs 6 lakh for the top-end model.
