2018 TVS Apache RTR 200 4V ABS Variant Launched


Further expanding its Apache RTR 200 4V lineup, TVS Motor Company has introduced a new ABS (Anti-lock braking system) variant of the premium motorcycle. With this move, the 2018 TVS Apache RTR 200 4V (caburetor variant) becomes the first bike in its segment to get dual channel ABS unit. Tuned for both high and low friction surfaces, the new-generation dual channel ABS system is claimed to offer “precise feedback” and “superior confidence in late braking and optimal cornering control”.

Priced at Rs 1.07 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi), the Apache RTR 200 4V features an ‘ABS’ sticker on the right side of the front mud guard. Design, features and engine of the bike remain unchanged. Just so you know, TVS updated the bike with BSIV norm, AHO unit and Pirelli tyres in March 2017.

As we mentioned above, the bike is currently available in four variants for retail including the Pirelli tyre, without Pirelli tyre version, RTR 200 FI and RTR 200 ABS. With a price difference of Rs 5000, the standard (without Pirelli tyre) and Pirelli tyre variants are priced at Rs 93,685 and Rs 98,685 respectively. While the Apache RTR 200 FI version is available at Rs 1.06 lakh, the new ABS model costs Rs 1.07 lakh. Please note that the aforementioned prices are ex-showroom, Delhi.

Powering the bike is a 197.75cc, single cylinder engine with 4-valve configuration, single overhead cramshaft (SOHC) arrangement and oil-cooled system, tuned to deliver 20.2bhp at 8,500rpm for the carburetted variant and 20.7bhp at 8,500 for the EFI trim. Torque produced by both the variants is same at 18.1Nm at 7,000rpm. Both the trims use the 5-speed manual unit for transmitting power, it is to be noted that this is the same engine that does duty on the RTR 160 and RTR 180 models. On the performance front, the carburettor trims take 3.95 seconds to sprint from 0 to 60kmph while attaining electronically controlled speed of 127kmph.

Dimensionally, the Apache RTR 200 4V measures 2,050mm long, 790mm wide and 1,150mm high. The wheelbase is 1,353mm long, saddle height is 800mm high and the ground clearance is around 180mm. The fuel tank capacity is 12-litres and the kerb weight is 148kgs for the carburetted version while the EFI trim weighs 148.5kgs.

2018 TVS Apache RTR 200 Design 

The naked streetfighter is built on the double cradle split synchro stiff chassis, the bike takes design inspiration from the Darken concept that was presented before bike enthusiasts at the 2014 Auto Expo. Besides, it resembles strongly with the RTR 160 and RTR 180 models in the Apache RTR line-up. The all-new digital instrument cluster features tachometer and large rev-limiter light. The sporty black finish on engine, restyled exhaust with twin mufflers & mud-guards, larger petal disc brakes at front & rear further accentuate the sporty flair.
