Honda HR-V Is Under Consideration For Indian Market
Indians have grown affinity for the rugged SUVs in last ten years. Attributed to large proportions, spacious cabin and off-roading capability; SUVs make for a viable choice among the various body-styles. Despite complexities that Indian market is known for, the carmakers have paved their way to a segment that offers comfort of a SUV within the affordable limit. With the demand for SUVs surging every year, new models are being rolled out in the entry-level and premium segments alike. Honda lately jumped on the bandwagon with its seven-seater BR-V SUV that is slotted below CR-V in its line-up. Now, the company is planning to launch its global SUV – Honda HRV – in the country.
In terms of pricing, there is a stark difference between the BR-V and CR-V and hence Honda is thinking on the lines to launch HR-V SUV. If launched in India, Honda HR-V will fill the void between BR-V and CR-V. Last year, Honda Cars India President and CEO Yoichiro Ueno said that the company is considering this SUV for the Indian market. Speaking to ET, Mr Ueno said that they have received requests and enquiries for the HRV SUV. This further confirms that Honda is seriously considering this SUV for our market.
The HRV is based on the Jazz platform that also underpins the City and the newly launched Honda WRV. So, localisation of this SUV in the country shouldn’t be a big problem. Unveiled at the 2013 Detroit Motor Show under a different nameplate (Honda Vezel) the Honda HR-V sports assertive looks with robust front profile and new elements. The rising shoulder line and hunchback silhouette enhance the visual appeal. Under the hood, Honda HR-V could come with a choice between 1.5 litre, i-VTEC petrol engine and the 1.6 litre, i-DTEC oil burner. If launched in India, the Honda HR-V price could start from Rs 15.
