Minimum Rs 8 lakh
Maximum Rs 12 lakh

The Carlino or HND14 concept that broke cover at Auto Expo was based on the Elite i20 platform. It’s the same architecture that underpins the Verna sedan. However, a few media reports suggest that the company could use the Grand i10 platform to achieve aggressive pricing. Similar to other new-age Hyundai cars, which are priced slightly higher than their respective rivals, we expect this one to cost slightly higher than its competitors.

Hyundai Carlino Specifications

Petrol Engine 1.0-litre T-GDi
Diesel Engine 1.4-litre U2 CRDi
Gearbox 6-speed MT & 4-speed AT

Instead of the 1.2-litre Kappa petrol engine, Hyundai might use a new smaller capacity turbocharged petrol engine for the SUV. That means, the Carlino will derive its power from a 1.0-litre T-GDi petrol engine that also does duty in the global-spec i20 hatchback. This motor pushes out a maximum power output of 118bhp at 6,000rpm, while making a peak torque of 171Nm between 1,500 – 4,000rpm. On the other hand, the diesel version of the compact SUV will use a 1.4-litre U2 CRDi diesel engine. This powertrain has already been used in the Creta and the i20. The power and torque figures of this oil burner stand at 89bhp at 4,000rpm and 220Nm at 1,500 – 2,750rpm respectively.

Hyundai Carlino Mileage

Hyundai Carlino Exterior

Hyundai’s upcoming SUV will carry the conventional SUV-ish profile with boxy design as we have seen on its concept. Unlike most of Hyundai’s cars featuring Fluidic design philosophy, this car will have aggressive stance. The front fascia looks sporty – thanks to its large grille, chunky bumpers, sleek headlamps with LED daytime running lamps and scuff plates under the bumper.
