Lamborghini’s First SUV ‘Urus’ Makes A Whopping 641bhp!
Automobili Lamborghini, the renowned Italian luxury supercars manufacturer, will foray into SUV segment with the all-new Urus. What’s so special about it? Well, its 4.0-litre V8 twin-turbo powertain makes 641bhp! Yes you read it right, a whopping 641bhp. The details were revealed by Lamborghini CEO Stefano Domenicalia on 16th May 2017. In terms of power, the new Lamborghini SUV fits between the Huracan and Aventador supercars.
The Urus stole our hearts with its first preview as a concept at the 2012 Beijing Motor Show. After a long gestation period, the production model of the SUV was caught on camera while setting hot laps at the Nurburgring racetrack. The new Lamborghini SUV will have its world debut later this year. United States will be the first market to receive the Urus in the third quarter of 2018. A year after its launch, Lambo will introduce a plug-in hybrid version of the SUV.
Domnicalia also revealed that the plug-in hybrid version will use twin-turbo V8 motor as its internal combustion component. It’s likely to be 680bhp power source utilized in Porsche Panamera Turbo S E-Hybrid. Lambo’s Sant’Agata Bolognese Italy-based facility will serve as the production hub for the Urus, which is estimated to make 1,000 units in 2018. This number will be increased to 3,500 units in 2019.
Designed on Volkswagen Group’s SUV-spec MLB platform, the Lamborghini Urus will keep coupe-like silhouette and most of the fins and angles. The same architecture also underpins the Bentley Bentayga and Audi Q7. With low coupe-like roofline and shoulders, as we have seen on the concept, the Urus will not be as practical as other SUVs. However, it will surely be unique and more premium. It will be interesting to see how Lambo manages to create enough headroom with slanted roofline.
The Lamborghini Urus will be more family-centric SUV with focus on on-road performance. The Italian supercarmaker has confirmed that it will have off-road driving modes – Snow, Sand, Gravel, etc. Similar to the Aventador S’ Ego mode, the Urus might come with a personalized mode. For the record, Lamborghini claims that the Urus will be the world’s fastest SUV. Though, the technical figures are yet to be revealed.
Pricing of the Lamborghini Urus will be below $200,000 (around Rs 1.29 lakh), thus making it the most affordable Lambo in the current lineup. And the news that will make you happier is that the Urus SUV will also hit Indian shores. Let me tell you one more interesting thing that the name ‘Urus’ is inspired from the aurochs, which is an extinct species of large wild cattle found in North Africa, Asia and Europe.
