Maruti Baleno RS Launching Next Month
Estimated to be priced around Rs. 9 lakh (ex-showroom), the Maruti Baleno RS will take on the Volkswagen GT TSI in India.
Maruti Baleno RS, the much-awaited hot hatch from the Indo-Japanese carmaker, will be launched in the Indian market in March 2017. Technical details of the hatchback have already been revealed on the web. The RS will be offered only on the top-spec Baleno Alpha trim. This means that the vehicle will have all the features offered in the top-end Baleno, including SmartPlay infotainment system, dual airbags, Bi-xenon automatic headlamps with LED daytime running lamps, reverse camera and parking sensors, etc. Under the bonnet is a new 1.0-litre Boosterjet petrol engine paired to a 5-speed manual gearbox. This powertrain is good for 102bhp of power and 150Nm of torque. For achieving high power figures and better performance, Maruti has also tweaked the suspension setup of the car.
Standing tall at 114mm of ground clearance, this performance car will be equipped with disc brakes on both front and rear axles. It will be exclusively sold through premium Nexa dealerships across the country.Once launched, this performance hatchback will lock horns with cars like Volkswagen Polo GT TSI and Fiat Punto Abarth. Maruti Baleno RS Launch Date
The exact launch date of the hatchback is yet to be announced by the carmaker. However, media reports suggest that the car could be launched in early March 2017. We will update you as soon as Maruti reveals anything on the same.

That said, this performance hatchback will be positioned above the existing Baleno lineup. With sporty styling and a powerful turbo engine, the Maruti Suzuki Baleno RS prices are estimated to fall between Rs 8.5 lakh to Rs. 9 lakh (ex-showroom).

Powering the new Baleno RS is a newly developed 1.0-litre, 3-cylinder Boosterjet turbocharged petrol engine. This tubo motor churns out a maximum power output of 102bhp at 5,500rpm against 150Nm of torque between 1,700rpm to 4,500rpm. Power will be transmitted to the front wheels via a 5-speed manual gearbox. The company might also introduce an automatic version, but on later stage.
This engine is basically the de-tuned version of the 1.0L Boosterjet unit, which currently powers the International spec Baleno. The global model produces 110bhp of power and 175Nm of torque. Maruti claims that this direct-injection engine will be high on performance and deliver an exhilarating drive. This newly developed turbocharged diesel engine christened ‘Boosterjet’ will also power the future Maruti products in India. The hatchback will have disc brakes on both front and rear axles.

On fuel efficiency ground, the new Maruti Baleno RS will be a step ahead of the regular Baleno hatchback. We expect this hot hatch to deliver an average around 20kmpl, thus making it the most fuel efficient in its category.

Maruti Baleno RS Exterior
Design and styling of the Baleno RS is a lot edgier and sportier than the regular model. Carrying Suzuki’s new liquid flow design philosophy, this hot hatch features a sporty body kit enhancing its aggressive character. Face is styled quite aggressively with a V-shaped grille, sweptback headlamps, sporty bumper with wider air-intakes and fog lamps. The side profile could be adorned by some body-decals, rear-end will feature LED tail lamps and added chrome elements. The vehicle might get bigger alloy wheels and new detailing.
Aforementioned design elements will make it look different from the regular variant. Along with these updates, the performance model might also get some additional safety features such as tyre pressure monitoring system, side airbags, radar-based brake support, all-four disc brakes, etc.

Save for the few additional features, the interior of the hatchback will remain unchanged. The car might come with a revised instrument panel, new upholstery for seats and new steering. There will be generous space to accommodate 5 adults, and sufficient luggage area (339-litres) for carrying weekend bags.
The feature list might include a SmartPlay infotainment system with Bluetooth, AppleCarPlay and Navigation, rear parking camera and sensors, climate control and engine start-stop button. While the hatchback’s regular model weighs 865kgs, the Maruti Baleno RS carries a kerb weight around 950kgs. This performance edition might also come with a new black exterior paint option.
