Japanese automaker, Honda is aiming at premium car segment to further boost its market share in India. The company will launch 6 all new cars in the country by the 2020 and most of them will be premium cars. The company will also re-launch the popular Civic brand in the Indian car market. Besides, Honda will introduce the Honda HRV 5-seater premium SUV and new CRV 7-seater diesel. The new Honda Civic 2018 will make its India debut at the 2018 Delhi Auto Expo in February. Instead of current global model, Honda will showcase the facelifted Civic sedan at the Auto Show.

Media reports are to be believed, this premium sedan will be unveiled in a pre-production avatar. With this saloon, Honda will aim at existing City sedan buyers looking for an upgrade as the former is already four year old. First unveiled in 2015, the 10th generation Civic will be locally assembled in India that will help the maker to achieve aggressive pricing. The updated model has already been spotted testing in global markets, revealing design changes. The Civic facelift will feature a wheelbase of 2,700mm, but the length and width could have been altered.

The new Honda Civic 2018 sedan model has been designed on a new chassis, which is lighter, stiffer and safer. Featuring edgier and more angular stance, the new Civic look completely different from its predecessor. For the first time, the Honda Civic 2018 will be equipped with a diesel engine in the Indian market. The previous generation model was only available with petrol engine, which was the main reason behind its low sale. Powering the sedan will be a locally produced 1.6-litre i-DTEC diesel engine, which will also power the new Honda HRV premium SUV and the new 7-seater CRV SUV.

Though, the power output will be different for all three models. Japanese automaker has already started manufacturing and export of this new engine at its Tapukara plant in Rajasthan. On the other side, the petrol engine will be a 1.8-litre i-VTEC engine that also powers the previous model. Transmission duties will be carried out by a 6-speed manual and CVT automatic. The Honda Civic was one of the most popular Honda brands in India. Owing to its slow sales, the Japanese maker had discontinued the sedan in 2013.
