Next-gen Volkswagen Vento India Launch Timeline Revealed
Volkswagen Group has officially announced to launch locally produced two new SUVs in India in 2020. After launching SUVs, Skoda and Volkswagen will launch a pair of mid-sized sedans in India in 2021. It is expected that the new mid-sized sedan from Volkswagen will come as a replacement for the Vento sedan. For people not in the know, Volkswagen has recently launched the Virtus sedan, Vento replacement, in the Brazilian market.
The next-generation Volkswagen Vento will be based on VW Group’s MQB AO IN platform, which will be locally developed by Skoda in India. It is basically a heavily localised MQB AO platform that currently underpins the new-gen Polo and Virtus sedan. This sedan will take on the likes of Honda City, Hyundai Verna and Maruti Suzuki Ciaz.
In terms of size, the new Virtus sedan is slightly longer than the current Vento. It has a large wheelbase of 2,650mm, which is around 80mm more than that of the Polo. Thanks to the increased wheelbase, the sedan now offers a large boot space of 521-litres. The next-generation Vento will be powered by a locally produced 1.0-litre TSI turbocharged petrol engine that produces around 116bhp of power and 200Nm of torque. Initially, the sedan will only arrive in petrol avatar.
Before Virtus, Volkswagen will launch a compact SUV in India in 2020. This SUV is likely to share design cues from the upcoming T-Cross compact SUV. It will challenge the likes of Hyundai Creta, Renault Captur and Nissan Kicks.
