Production Ready VW T-ROC SUV Teased; Launch This Year
At the 2017 Geneva Motor Show, Volkswagen showcased the new VW Arteon sedan concept. Besides this, the company has also teased a number of vehicles scheduled to be launched in select international markets later this year. Interestingly, the company has also released a teaser image of the production spec VW T-ROC concept SUV. It was speculated that the production version of the Volkswagen T-ROC SUV will arrive in 2018. However, the latest development around this SUV suggest towards a possible launch by the end of this year. The German automaker might also consider this SUV for the growing Indian market.
Going by the teaser, it is visible that the T-ROC shares some of its design elements from the Audi Q2. However, the latter is sportier with a coupe-like roofline. On the other hand, VW’s car features typical SUV like flat roof. The muscular wheel arches further adds to its sporty look. Upfront is a hexagonal radiator grille with dual slats, large headlamps, honeycomb mesh design for the wider air-dams and horizontally positioned fog lamps. First unveiled as 2-door SUV concept at the 2014 Geneva Motor Show, the production-spec model is a conventional 5-door SUV with a fixed roof. Based on the MQB platform, the new SUV will be slotted between the Tiguan and the upcoming T-Cross Breeze. It will share most of its components from the Golf hatchback. Features like floating dashboard, fully digital instrument cluster and a 9.2-inch touchscreen infotainment system with voice and gesture control, etc will be sourced from its sibling hatchback.
The new VW T-ROC is likely to get a 1.0-litre TSI 3-cylinder or a 1.5-litre TSI Evo 4-cylinder petrol engines. The GTI edition will get a 2.0-litre TSI petrol unit. Diesel version of the SUV could get a 1.6-litre TDI 4-cylinder or a 2.0-litre TDI 4-cylinder unit. Transmission options are likely to include a 6-speed manual and a 7-speed DSG automatic unit.
